Important update regarding Mounjaro availability

Posted on:

Recently, we have become aware that some patients are having difficulty accessing Mounjaro due to supply shortages. We understand how important this medication is to your treatment plan and want to help you navigate this situation with care.

Before requesting a switch to another GLP-1 medication, we strongly urge you to check with multiple pharmacies, including large chains and independent pharmacies. Availability can vary significantly, and many patients have successfully located stock by expanding their search. If you’re stable and responding well to Mounjaro, switching could disrupt your progress. Maintaining continuity with a medication that’s working for you is always preferable when possible.

If, after trying all reasonable options, you are unable to obtain Mounjaro, please contact the surgery to discuss alternative medicines which may be appropriate depending on your individual health goals and history.

Kindly note that switching medications isn’t a simple swap –  Mounjaro (tirzepatide) has a unique mechanism of action that may not be replicated by other GLP-1 therapies. There is no direct 1:1 dose equivalence between Mounjaro and other GLP-1 medications. Each drug has a unique dosing schedule and pharmacological profile. Starting a new medication often requires re-titration, which can delay therapeutic benefits and increase the risk of side effects, and any transition will require careful consideration and medical supervision to ensure safety and effectiveness.

We know this situation can be frustrating; we understand how frustrating and disruptive this situation may be, and we are committed to supporting you through it.
